Nitin Agarwal has been named as the Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF). Agarwal, a 1989 batch Kerala cadre officer, previously served as the Additional Director General of Operations in the Central Reserve Police Force. The BSF had been without a full-time chief since the retirement of Pankaj Singh on December 31, 2022, with CRPF Director General Dr. Sujoy Lal Thaosen holding additional charge as its chief. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet appointed Agarwal as the BSF chief, with him assuming the role once the ongoing biannual meeting with the Border Guard Bangladesh concludes on June 14. Agarwal will hold the post until his retirement on July 31, 2026, or further orders. The appointment comes during a period of border tension between the two countries.
