The Nigeria Airforce has conducted a sustained airstrike on a terrorists’ hideout in Borno State in an effort to eliminate insurgent activities in the area. The operation, carried out by the air and ground components of Operation Hadin Kai, has recorded a series of successful strikes.
On 5 January 2024, the Airforce targeted terrorists who were observed moving suspected weapons and ammunition to Parisu, a location near the notorious Sambisa Forest. The area had previously been cleared of terrorist activities by Nigerian troops. However, the convergence of terrorists in the area raised suspicions about their intentions, leading to the decision to strike. The aftermath of the operation resulted in a massive explosion, engulfing two adjacent spots in flames. Surviving terrorists were seen fleeing for safety, while twelve terrorists were neutralized in the strike. Additionally, their logistics were destroyed, significantly degrading their ability to carry out attacks on soft targets and Nigerian troops.
In a separate operation on 6 January 2024, similar airstrikes were conducted about 1.5 kilometers southwest of Tumbun Agiri, located in the Lake Chad region. Previous intelligence indicated the continuous gathering of armed terrorists in pick-up vehicles and motorcycles in the area. The precision strikes on the location resulted in the destruction of vehicles and motorcycles, as well as the elimination of several terrorists.
Earlier, on 2 January 2024, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted an air reconnaissance mission and targeted opportune assets at Tumbun Alura. Three canoes loaded with suspected Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) were identified as the targets and subsequently engaged. The engagement resulted in a powerful explosion. Similar successful strikes were carried out at Tumbun Buwari and Sabon Tumbun, targeting terrorist structures within the Lake Chad region.
The Nigeria Airforce’s persistent bombings of terrorists’ hideouts in Borno State demonstrate the determination to eliminate insurgent activities in the area. The latest operations in Parisu and Tumbun Agiri have resulted in significant setbacks for the terrorists, with weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and motorcycles destroyed. The successful strikes have degraded the terrorists’ capabilities to launch attacks on civilian targets and Nigerian troops.
As Operation Hadin Kai continues its efforts to clear the Northeast region of remnants of terrorists, the Nigeria Airforce remains committed to supporting ground forces in their mission to secure the area and maintain peace. These sustained operations exemplify the country’s resolve and determination to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
