The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been granted custody of accused Shamil Nachan, who was arrested in connection with the Pune ISIS module case. The NIA has been given seven days to hold him for further questioning.
Shamil Nachan, a resident of Padgha in Mumbai’s Thane, was actively involved in promoting terrorist activities on behalf of a designated foreign terrorist organization. He was found to be involved in the fabrication, training, and testing of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) for the commission of terrorist acts.
The NIA has been working diligently to uncover the activities of the Pune ISIS module. Shamil Nachan had been collaborating with five other accused individuals, including Zulfikar Ali Barodawala, Mohammed Imran Khan, Mohammed Yunus Saki, Simab Nasiruddin Kazi, and Abdul Kadir Pathan, as well as several other suspects.
Investigations have revealed that the accused planned to commit terrorist acts with the intention of disrupting peace and communal harmony in the country. Their ultimate aim was to wage war against the Government of India in alignment with the ISIS agenda.
The NIA’s investigations have shown that the accused were operating from a house in Kondhwa, Pune, where they had assembled IEDs and conducted bomb training workshops. They even carried out a controlled explosion to test one of the IEDs they had fabricated.
Of the individuals involved in the ISIS sleeper cell, two members, Imran Khan and Mohammed Yunus Saki, were part of the ‘Sufa terrorist gang’ and had been on the run. The NIA had declared them as ‘most wanted’ following the recovery of explosives from a car in Rajasthan.
ISIS, also known as Islamic State (IS), Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), Daish, Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP), ISIS Wilayat Khorasan, Islamic State of Iraq and the Sham Khorasan (ISIS-K), has been actively working on its anti-India agenda by spreading terror across the country through violent acts.
