NFL Player Carl Nassib has decided to retire from football after seven seasons to focus on his nonprofit app, Rayze. In an Instagram post, Nassib reflected on his football journey, expressing gratitude for the opportunities the sport has given him. He mentioned that he will now devote his time to Rayze, an app that connects people to nonprofits based on their interests and location.
Nassib thanked God, his family, and friends for their support throughout his football career, as well as his agent, Brian Ayrault, who was the first person in the football industry he came out to. He acknowledged the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for reigniting his career on two separate occasions.
The journey to the NFL was not easy for Nassib, who started as a walk-on at Penn State. He encouraged others to pursue their dreams and be the best they can be in everything they do, while also emphasizing the importance of hard work, smart decisions, and kindness towards others.
Nassib concluded his retirement announcement by mentioning his collaboration with the NFL’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. He expressed gratitude for the league’s support over the past two years and the positive reception he received after coming out as gay in June 2021.
Drafted in the third round by the Cleveland Browns in 2016, Nassib had a successful career, including stints with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite a performance decline in Las Vegas, Nassib returned to the Buccaneers last season and made significant contributions.
As Nassib transitions from football to focusing on Rayze, he is grateful for the support he has received and looks forward to making a difference in the nonprofit sector. The NFL will continue to support him as he engages with its DEI initiatives.
