NFL Pays Tribute to Jim Brown, Legendary Browns Player, in Preseason Ceremony
Hours before the Cleveland Browns’ NFL preseason kickoff, they came together to honor their greatest player of all time, Jim Brown. The Browns and Pro Football Hall of Fame organized a special Celebration of Life to commemorate the legendary running back, who sadly passed away in May at the age of 87.
I never met a greater person, expressed former Baltimore Ravens linebacker and fellow Hall of Famer Ray Lewis to the audience, speaking of Jim Brown’s impact on and off the field.
The ceremony took place in the Canton McKinley High School auditorium adjacent to the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Several current Browns players and team officials, as well as All-Pro running back Nick Chubb, attended the event. Chubb, who previously stated that he would play the season in honor of Brown, affirmed his commitment to carrying on Brown’s legacy. Additionally, former Cleveland offensive tackle Joe Thomas, set to be enshrined into the Hall of Fame himself this weekend, graciously attended the celebration.
Jim Brown dedicated nine seasons to the Browns from 1957 to 1965, during which he led the league in rushing eight times. He was also named a Pro Bowler in each season he played. Brown’s remarkable skills and leadership guided the Cleveland team to three league championship games, triumphantly winning the title in 1964. His incredible achievements earned him MVP honors on three separate occasions.
The NFL’s tribute to Jim Brown not only recognized his athletic prowess but also his undeniable impact on the game and the community. A true icon, he leaves behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations of players and fans alike.
