The next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is gearing up for its global debut in the coming months, and Toyota has given us a sneak peek through its first teaser. Expected to be unveiled later this year, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado has undergone testing in the United States.
The upcoming Land Cruiser Prado draws inspiration from the recently unveiled third-generation Lexus GX SUV and will share its underpinnings and powertrain options. Toyota showcased the 2024 Prado alongside the original 1960 Toyota FJ40, highlighting the perfect blend of heritage and modernity.
Both SUVs will feature the same bodyshell and utilize the new TNGA-F ladder-frame architecture, which also forms the foundation for the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series. This architecture ensures a strong base for the vehicles, enhancing their performance on and off the road. Additionally, the 2024 Land Cruiser Prado inherits the longer wheelbase from its 300 Series sibling. Interestingly, in the United States, the new Prado will be marketed as the Toyota Land Cruiser.
In terms of powertrain options, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is expected to offer hybrid power in the United States, equipped with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. Australia, on the other hand, is likely to receive a diesel engine variant, catering to different market preferences.
With its upgraded features and next-generation infotainment system, the new Prado aims to bridge the gap between the Land Cruiser Prado and more luxurious and expensive SUVs. As a replacement for the 13-year-old Toyota Prado 150 Series, the 2024 model will feature increased dimensions. It will be slightly longer, wider, and taller, with an extended wheelbase, potentially allowing for a third row of seats and a more spacious and comfortable cabin.
In Australia, there could be a change in the powertrain options available for the Prado. It is expected to replace the GX’s 3.5L turbo-petrol V6 with the LC300’s powerful 3.3-liter turbo-diesel V6. However, this change might be limited to high-grade variants, leaving room for a less powerful four-cylinder hybrid unit, similar to the 2.4-liter petrol-electric powertrain found in the Lexus GX.
As the Land Cruiser Prado expands into new and larger markets, including North America, the demand for this SUV is expected to surpass that of its predecessor. The anticipation for the Land Cruiser Prado and its Lexus counterpart, the new GX, is also growing in India.
Toyota’s upcoming Land Cruiser Prado is set to offer an impressive combination of power, performance, and enhanced comfort. With its modern design and advanced features, it aims to capture the hearts of SUV enthusiasts around the world.
