Newcastle United is reportedly close to securing the signing of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan for €70million. The Magpies have been linked with the midfielder, who played a crucial role in helping Milan win Serie A in 2021/22. The 14-cap Italian international has played 130 matches for Milan over the past three seasons.
Fabrizio Romano had previously dismissed reports linking Tonali with Newcastle, stating that Milan want important money or nothing. However, David Ornstein of The Athletic has since reported that Newcastle are close to an agreement with AC Milan, following an offer of €50million on Tuesday. Tonali has also attracted the interest of Chelsea, but Newcastle appears to be leading the race to acquire his services.
In addition, there are reports that Newcastle is considering signing Wolves’ Ruben Neves on loan from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal. Neves is close to joining Al Hilal for £47million, and Newcastle has discussed the possibility of a two-year loan deal. Al Hilal has recently been taken over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PiF), who own an 80% stake in Newcastle.
While the signing of Tonali would significantly boost Newcastle’s midfield, a loan deal for Neves would further strengthen the Magpies’ squad ahead of their return to the Champions League. These potential signings demonstrate Newcastle’s ambition to compete with the Premier League’s elite and establish themselves as a major force in English football.
