The School Education Department in Nagaland is seeking to develop new service rules and conduct a cadre review to enhance the education system in the state. This was revealed by Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, the Advisor for School Education and SCERT, during a two-day state-level coordination and review meeting with DMAs and EBRCs at the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) in Kohima.

Yhome stressed the need for an all-encompassing approach to adopting service rules and avoiding fragmented solutions in the department. He advocated for strengthening the administrative structure from the grassroots level, particularly in pre-primary and primary education, to drive change and implement reforms. The advisor also emphasized the importance of promoting professional growth among mid-career teachers.

In addition, Yhome expressed concern about the practice of depriving girl children of education and assigning them domestic responsibilities. He also proposed the elimination of self-nomination for teacher’s awards and called for block coordinators and district-level officials to identify deserving teachers for the awards.

Commissioner and Secretary, School Education SCERT and Vice Chairman NEMS, Kevileno Angami, expressed satisfaction with the improved school education indicators for the state of Nagaland since 2020-21 and 2021-22. These improvements included transition rates at the elementary and secondary levels and reduced dropout rates.

The state mission director, Temsunaro Aier highlighted that the event aimed to enhance the skills of officials in light of the implementation of NEP 2020. She emphasized that everyone involved in Samagra Shiksha should demonstrate the highest level of commitment and motivation to resolve issues promptly.

The department aims to compile a comprehensive list of teachers by the end of July while eliminating fragmented solutions for sustaining the growth of the education system in Nagaland. The opinions of all concerned will be considered while developing the new service rules and conducting the cadre review.
