The next iPad is coming. That’s a good thing because there were no new tablets from Apple last year. Now, according to a new report, the iPad Pro will arrive in May.
Apple iPad Pro 12.9 and iPad Air on top. Will we see two new iPads in May?
That’s according to Bloomberg’s Mark Garman, who says in a new report that the launch date will be much later than previously predicted. Although he had previously said on March 10 that he would look for new hardware around the end of March or April, he has now revised his statement and said that Apple’s overseas suppliers will be purchasing the company’s long-awaited new iPad. He said the company is increasing production of new models. The launch is scheduled for early May, according to people familiar with the matter.
His hints as to what exactly will be revealed include the arrival of a new iPad Pro and iPad Air, the introduction of an OLED screen on the Pro model for the first time, and another first, a new, larger iPad. Deaf, he says. iPad Air with 10.9-inch version and 12.9-inch display.
My previous prediction was that the product would be released at the end of April or May 3rd, closer to Gourmand’s new date, but I’d go further and say it could be a week later. That means a tablet could be released. Of course, there is time for things to change again.
So why did he change his mind about the release date? I think it’s because the evidence has changed. He said Apple had planned to launch the new iPad by the end of March or early April, but the company has been working to perfect the software for the device. The latest models of screens also require complex new manufacturing techniques, which is causing delays.
I suspect Apple always had this schedule in mind. If the production line is ramping up only now, as he says, it suggests that Apple had no previous plans to release the iPad sooner. But of course, software and hardware are also closely related.
Garman said the new iPad Pro will be equipped with the M3 chip that powers iMacs, MacBook Airs, and MacBook Pros, for example, and will be compatible with the new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, which are expected to be announced at the same time.
I think Gourmand’s schedule is around now, but I’m confused to hear that the product he says is still coming. Apple has released new regular iPads alongside the Pro and Air in the past, but never the new Air and the new Pro at the same time.
He may be right, but part of me thinks Apple will focus on the iPad Pro for now and save the Air for later this year. Well, you’ll soon find out.
