A new initiative has been launched in strife-torn Manipur, in northeast India, aimed at restoring humanity and peace to the region. The Interfaith Forum for Peace and Harmony (IFPH) was established following a meeting attended by more than 30 people, representing various faiths, in Imphal. The forum aims to help those affected by violent clashes between rival communities in the area since May. Over 100 people have died and thousands have been made homeless in the unrest. Religious leaders from Christian, Islamic, Hindu and indigenous faiths, along with spiritual communities such as the Art of Living, have signed up to the initiative. A working committee comprising two representatives from each faith will oversee the project.
