The Northeast Students’ Organisation (NESO) has criticized the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the ongoing violence in Manipur. The students’ body has also expressed concern about the central government’s inaction to resolve the clashes. In a statement, NESO blamed both the state and central governments for their failure to control and stop violence in Manipur, even after more than 45 days of conflict.
NESO has urged people to maintain peace in Manipur and not spread fake news, misinformation, and false propaganda, which will only worsen the situation. The organisation has announced that it will hold candle-light marches in all the capital cities of the Northeast states on June 28 while appealing for peace in Manipur.
The NESO comprises eight top students’ bodies from seven Northeast states, including AASU, KSU, GSU, AAPSU, NSF, AMSU, MZP, and TSF. The students’ body has expressed deep sorrow at the ongoing incidents of violence resulting in the loss of precious lives and destruction of properties.
The NESO has expressed shock and surprise at Prime Minister Modi’s silence on the happenings in Manipur. According to the students’ body, the Prime Minister’s silence will only further alienate the indigenous people of the Northeast. The NESO has also questioned the central government’s reponse to the violence in Manipur.
In conclusion, NESO has called on the Indian government to take swift action to restore peace in Manipur. The students’ body has also urged citizens of Manipur to maintain peace and not spread false propaganda.
