Man Charged with Threatening Neighbor with Knife in Hackney; Court Date Set

A resident of Hackney, Wayne Calder, aged 48, has appeared in court facing charges of threatening his neighbor with a knife. The incident allegedly occurred on Thursday, October 26 in Hackney. Calder has been charged with threatening with a bladed article, religiously aggravated under Section 4 of the Public Order Act, and threats to kill.

Following his arrest, Calder was brought before Thames Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 27. He was subsequently released on bail and is now scheduled to appear at Wood Green Crown Court on Tuesday, November 21.

The Metropolitan Police, or the Met, is actively engaged in listening to and collaborating with the communities and partners in London to ensure their safety amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. In response to the heightened tensions, hundreds of officers have been deployed to conduct high visibility reassurance patrols across the capital.

However, it is important to note that the specific incident involving Calder does not appear to be directly related to the Israel/Hamas conflict. The charges he faces are independent of this larger political issue.

As part of the concerted effort to combat hate crimes, the Met has already made over 70 arrests in connection with offenses linked to the Israel/Hamas conflict. The police have made it abundantly clear that any form of hate crime will not be tolerated. Individuals who threaten or incite violence will be pursued relentlessly.

The Met encourages anyone who becomes a victim of hate crime to promptly report the incident to the police via the non-emergency number 101. In an emergency situation, it is vital to call 999 for immediate assistance.

The safety of all Londoners is the utmost priority for law enforcement authorities, and they are dedicated to fostering a sense of security and peace within the community. By working hand in hand with local residents, the police aim to instill trust and maintain a safe environment for everyone.
