NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, in its third term, has allocated the Ministry of Communications portfolio to Jyotiraditya M. Scindia. He has also been appointed as the Minister of Development of North Eastern Region, according to the press statement issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on June 10, 2024.
Scindia, a former civil aviation minister, takes over Ashwini Vaishnaw who has been allocated the Information & Broadcasting ((I&B) ministry in addition to Railways and Information Technology (IT).
The new union telecom minister’s immediate focus is likely to be on improving the overall sector health and the revival of the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), which has been struggling to launch its commercial fourth-generation (4G) mobile services even as top two private telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have leaped into the 5G-era.

Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani has been appointed as the Minister of State (MoS) in the Ministry of Communications, and, as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Rural Development, as per the statement.
