Two NCP Rebel MLAs Receive Death Threats, Caller Arrested in Pune: Police
A 24-year-old man has been arrested in Mahad, Raigad district, for reportedly threatening to kill Maharashtra ministers Chhagan Bhujbal and Dhananjay Munde, who are members of the Ajit Pawar camp of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The man, identified as Prashant Patil, allegedly called Bhujbal’s personal assistant on Monday night claiming to have taken a contract to kill the minister. The police complaint was registered at the Koregaon Park police station in Pune.
According to the viral telephonic conversation, the caller proudly mentioned his plan to execute the contract in advance. The police were able to trace the caller’s location to Mahad, 140 kilometers from Pune, leading to Patil’s arrest. He has been charged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Patil had also called Dhananjay Munde’s office in Parli, Beed district, threatening to kill the minister. A separate criminal offense has been registered by the Parli city police.
Chhagan Bhujbal clarified that his personal assistant informed him about the threat made against him. Bhujbal stated that the Pawar family does not engage in such acts and that Sharad Pawar, the NCP chief, fights ideologically rather than resorting to threats.
The police have arrested the caller and are continuing their investigation. Bhujbal suggested that the incident could be the work of an over-enthusiastic individual.
