On World No Tobacco Day, the NCC cadets of Government Madhav Arts and Commercial College in Gyarsi Nagar, Ujjain conducted a door-to-door public awareness campaign related to the prohibition of tobacco. Principal of the college, Dr JL Barmaiya, administered an oath to students and staff not to consume tobacco products. The event was rounded off under the leadership of IQAC in-charge, Dr Alpana Upadhyay, and Capt Dr Mohan Nimole.
District Health Officer Dr S K Singh motivated all officers and employees not to use or consume tobacco products and spread awareness about the physical and mental side effects of tobacco consumption. They explained the COTPA Act and administered an oath to avoid tobacco products.
The main purpose of celebrating World No Tobacco Day is to educate people about the harmful effects of tobacco on the body such as lung cancer, respiratory system disease, smoking during pregnancy, the effects of smokeless tobacco on the baby, asthma, pneumonia, and many more.
The cadets did a commendable job by conducting a door-to-door awareness campaign, which is an effective way to reach out to people and spread the message. It is important for more institutions and organizations to come forward and conduct similar campaigns to tackle the tobacco epidemic and create a healthier society.
