NBCUniversal Local Chicago Presents Inspiring Profiles and Celebrates Black History Month with Dynamic Content Lineup, US

NBC 5, Telemundo Chicago and NBC Sports Chicago to commemorate Black History Month

Beginning Jan. 30, NBC 5 Chicago, Telemundo Chicago, and NBC Sports Chicago will celebrate Black History Month with a diverse lineup of content focused on local business and civic leaders who are making a profound impact on their communities and driving societal change and awareness.

As part of NBCUniversal’s Discover Black Heritage campaign, the three Chicago-based properties will showcase stories that highlight the achievements and contributions of Chicago’s Black community.

We are proud to share new stories that celebrate the achievements and impact of Chicago’s diverse Black community across our three local properties, said Kevin Cross, president and general manager for NBCUniversal Local Chicago. It is our responsibility to educate our viewers on the progress and continued challenges of our diverse community, which is a year-round focus for our entire team.

NBCU Local Chicago’s coverage will include profiles on influential figures such as Common, the Chicago-born artist and activist who will discuss his mental and physical wellness book. Additionally, viewers can look forward to features on renowned sculptor Eric Blome, the success of Cleo’s Southern Cuisine in Bronzeville, and an exploration of the American People exhibit by legendary artist Faith Ringgold at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

The coverage will also highlight local Olympians Jewell Loyd and Tori Franklin, who use their success in sports to give back to their communities. Furthermore, historian Glennette Tilley Turner will discuss her new book on the Underground Railroad, and viewers will be taken on a guided tour of the Wabash YMCA where Black History Month originated.

Telemundo Chicago’s nightly news program, Noticiero Telemundo Chicago, will contribute to the Discover Black Heritage content with features on influential Afro-Latino figures such as Clemente Nicado, the founder of Nicado Publishing Co., and the National Museum of Mexican Art’s program for emerging Afro-Latino artists.

The comprehensive coverage will be available on NBCChicago.com, TelemundoChicago.com, and NBCSportsChicago.com, allowing viewers to access the videos and feature stories at any time on their preferred devices.

As Black History Month approaches, NBC 5 Chicago, Telemundo Chicago, and NBC Sports Chicago are committed to honoring the achievements and impact of Chicago’s Black community.
