Utah Jazz Waives NBA Player Romeo Langford After Preseason Debut

Romeo Langford, the former New Albany High School star and Indiana University standout, has been waived by the Utah Jazz, as announced by the team on Tuesday. Langford had signed a non-guaranteed Exhibit 10 contract with the Jazz on August 30. The decision to release Langford came just one day after he made his preseason debut with the Jazz.

In his preseason debut, Langford, wearing No. 15, played as a 6-foot-5, 216-pound wing and contributed four points and two assists in Utah’s 114-94 victory over the New Zealand Breakers. Langford went 2-for-3 from the field, 0-for-2 from the free-throw line, and also committed a pair of turnovers and fouls in seven minutes off the bench.

Prior to his first appearance in the preseason, Langford was one of the reserves who hadn’t played in the Jazz’s first three games due to the coach’s decision. As a result of being waived, Langford is now a free agent and may have the opportunity to sign with another NBA team. However, with the regular season set to start next Tuesday, it is more likely that Langford will join Utah’s G-League team.

Before joining the Jazz, Langford had a career marked by multiple injuries. He was selected as the No. 14 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics and played with the team for 2 1/2 seasons before being traded to the San Antonio Spurs. During the 2021-22 campaign, Langford only played four games for the Spurs. However, in the 2022-23 season, he experienced a career-high in points, rebounds, assists, and minutes for San Antonio.

Langford has appeared in a total of 141 games over his career, averaging 4.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 16.1 minutes per game. He has shot 43 percent from the field, 28.8 percent from 3-point range, and 65.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Langford’s future now remains uncertain, but he will have the opportunity to explore other potential options in the NBA or develop his skills further in the G-League. Only time will tell where Langford’s basketball journey will take him next.
