The National Library of Ukraine recently hosted a conference dedicated to the works of renowned writer Chyngyz Aitmatov. The event, held on December 7, was organized to honor the literary contributions of Aitmatov and showcase his impact on Ukrainian culture.
During the conference, attendees were introduced to a newly published collection featuring ten of Aitmatov’s works translated into Ukrainian. This publication aims to make the writer’s work more accessible to the local audience. Additionally, a film highlighting Aitmatov’s life and literary achievements was screened, providing attendees with a deeper understanding of his artistic journey.
The library also arranged a photo exhibition and art gallery featuring pieces inspired by Aitmatov’s works. To engage younger audiences, a drawing competition centered around the writer’s creations was conducted, with the winners receiving special gifts from the Kyrgyz Republic’s embassy. The competition seeks to promote Aitmatov’s literary masterpieces among children and create a lasting impact on their appreciation for his literature. The results of the competition will be announced in the summer of 2024.
The conference attracted a distinguished audience, including diplomats, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the President’s Office, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, and Members of Parliament. Leaders from the Union of Writers and the Union of Artists, along with academic representatives and notable cultural figures, also attended. Additionally, members of the Kyrgyz diaspora were present to celebrate their esteemed writer’s legacy.
