TEHRAN – Tehran province’s cultural, tourism, and handicrafts department have announced the upcoming National Handicrafts Exhibition, scheduled to take place from Feb. 22 to 25. The exhibition, which aims to celebrate and promote Iran’s rich artistic heritage, is expected to attract a wide audience.

With a diverse range of offerings from skilled craftspeople, the National Handicrafts Exhibition will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to appreciate the traditional craft skills and artistic endeavors of the country. The event will be held at the Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds, utilizing the facilities and capacities of the tourism exhibition, which will take place in the same location from Feb. 12 to 15.

Ehsan Dehqani, the deputy for handicrafts at the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization of Tehran province, explained that the initiative to organize this exhibition came from the private sector. After considering the proposal, the necessary permits were granted for the event, highlighting the significance of this showcase.

The exhibition will feature approximately 300 skilled artisans in the field of handicrafts, presenting their creations in 250 booths. The smallest booths will be 12 square meters in size, providing ample space for the craftspeople to display their masterpieces.

Maryam Jalali Dehkordi, the deputy minister for handicrafts at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, emphasized the importance of considering handicrafts from creation to consumption across various components and dimensions. Iran, known for its 13 cities and three villages registered as craft hubs by the World Crafts Council, recognizes the societal needs such as job creation, preservation of culture and traditions, support for domestic production, increased household income, and the improvement of the standard of living for rural households.

Throughout different historical periods, Iran has exhibited proficiency in various handicraft skills such as pottery, textile weaving, plasterwork, calligraphy, and metalwork. Ceramics and pottery, among the oldest and most prolific handicrafts in Iran, can be observed in historical sites and museums throughout the country, reflecting the rich artistic heritage.

The National Handicrafts Exhibition in Tehran provides an excellent opportunity for both Iranians and international visitors to explore and appreciate the artistic excellence of Iran’s diverse handicrafts. Visitors can look forward to being immersed in the beauty and intricacies of traditional crafts, gaining a deeper understanding of Iran’s cultural heritage.

Overall, the upcoming National Handicrafts Exhibition in Tehran promises to be an exceptional event, showcasing the immense talent and creativity of skilled artisans while celebrating Iran’s rich artistic heritage. It is an opportunity for individuals to engage with traditional crafts, support local craftsmanship, and foster cultural exchange.
