Australian spinner Nathan Lyon is set to achieve a historic milestone as he prepares for the upcoming Ashes Test against England at Lord’s in London. The veteran spinner is set to become the first specialist bowler to play in 100 consecutive Test matches when he takes on the English side on June 28th.

At the age of 35, Lyon has played a total of 99 Tests since 2013. He will now join the ranks of five other cricketers who have played 100 or more consecutive Tests: Alastair Cook (159), Allan Border (153), Mark Waugh (107), Sunil Gavaskar (106), and Brendon McCullum (101). This remarkable achievement has left Lyon tickled, and he has an amusing take on breaking this record.

I’m really proud of this achievement. It’s a proper stat in my head, to tick off 100 consecutive Test matches. It’s a lot of Test cricket, a lot of ups and downs. No wonder I’ve got no hair. For any athlete to achieve success over a long period of time, you need really good people around you, and I’m not just talking about the Australian cricket team. I feel blessed to have such amazing support and love from my family, Lyon commented to Fox Sports.

In addition to Lyon’s record-breaking 100th consecutive appearance, he is also on the edge of another significant milestone. The Aussie spinner is just five wickets away from the 500-wicket landmark in Test cricket. He has expressed his gratitude for his illustrious journey thus far and hopes to achieve this in the upcoming Test.

This is an impressive feat for Lyon, as the consistent performances demonstrate how he has been an integral part of the Australian cricket team for years. He has achieved considerable success, playing a vital role in several significant matches.

Lyon’s remarkable record is a result of his hard work, endurance, and skills. It is also a testament to the importance of having a strong support system. The spinner expressed how he has been blessed to have his family’s unwavering support over the years.

The second Ashes Test at Lord’s in London is set to mark an historic achievement, where Lyon will become the first specialist bowler to have played in 100 consecutive Test matches. It is a remarkable achievement that deserves all the attention and admiration. However, Lyon remains grounded and focused on the game, aiming to add to his 494 wickets and also to help the Australian cricket team to win the upcoming Test against their arch-rivals.
