(Nairobi, Kenya) Nairobi City County Governor Johnson Sakaja’s key liaison person, Osman Khalif Abdi, was abducted outside a major mall in Nairobi on Friday evening. The former South C Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) was taken by five armed individuals while his wife helplessly watched.

The family reported the incident at Parklands Police Station, but after 24 hours, they have not received any updates from the authorities. Yasin Khalif, Osman Khalif’s brother, expressed his concern regarding the lack of progress in the case. He also mentioned that the vehicle Osman was taken in, a double-cabin motor vehicle with the registration number KCT 163H, was found parked at the police station without any explanation as to how it got there.

Yasin appealed to the government for assistance in locating his missing brother. Osman’s wife, Yasmin Osman, who was evidently distraught, reported that she was also sexually assaulted by the abductors. Her assault was separately reported to the police.

Although Governor Johnson Sakaja is aware of the situation, he is currently out of the country. The family plans to take legal action and will be seeking an urgent court order to have the Inspector General of Police produce Osman Khalif in court. They also intend to request that the Sarit Centre mall, where the abduction took place, release surveillance footage of the incident.

Nairobi police chief, Adamson Bungei, was contacted for information regarding the abduction but claimed to be unaware and promised to follow up. However, as of the time of this publication, there has been no further update from him.

Osman Khalif served as the MCA for South C Ward from 2017 until his defeat in last year’s general election. The family remains desperate for answers and assistance in finding him and ensuring his safe return.
