Mysuru District Minister Urges Immediate Action on Civic Issues, Seeks Grants for Solutions

Mysuru District Minister HC Mahadevappa has called for urgent action to resolve civic issues plaguing Mysuru city. In a meeting with elected representatives and officials, he emphasized the need to address problems such as the drinking water crisis, repair of stormwater drains, rejuvenation of lakes, and improvement of the underground drainage system.

While Mysuru has been recognized as one of the cleanest cities, it still faces numerous challenges that demand attention. To tackle these issues effectively, Minister Mahadevappa directed officials, including the Muda (Mysuru Urban Development Authority) and Mysuru City Corporation, to prepare a comprehensive list of problems and the grants required to resolve them. This list will be submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during the quarterly Karnataka Development Program (KDP) review meeting scheduled for August or September. The minister urged officials to ensure that all ongoing civic works are completed before the start of the Dasara celebrations, which take place in October.

Expressing his dismay over the unplanned growth of private layouts on the outskirts of the city, Minister Mahadevappa instructed the Muda not to issue No Objection Certificates (NOC) to such layouts until basic facilities are provided. He further committed to personally visiting all wards to assess development progress and understand the issues faced by residents ahead of the Dasara celebrations.

To address civic issues more effectively, a coordination committee headed by the deputy commissioner will be established. This committee will consist of officials from Muda, Mysuru City Corporation, minor irrigation, Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board, public works, and CESC. The committee will conduct regular review meetings every three months to discuss resolved issues, necessary funds for repairs and rejuvenation of lakes and water bodies, and ensure proper sewage management to prevent pollution.

During the meeting, MLA GT Devegowda and Mayor M Shivakumar requested Minister Mahadevappa to urge the state government to allow local bodies to issue B Khatas (property registration documents) for revenue properties and houses constructed in revenue layouts, similar to the practice in Bengaluru’s BBMP. This move would help generate revenue and regularize houses in more than 275 private layouts in the Chamundeshwari segment alone, according to JD(S) MLA GT Devegowda.

MLA TS Srivathsa called for the repair of all damaged roads in the city before the Dasara celebrations. Meanwhile, MLA Tanveer Sait requested the district minister to sanction a separate sewage treatment facility with a capacity to handle the city’s sewage output of 240 million liters per day.

Also present at the meeting were MLC D Thimmaiah, City Police Commissioner Ramesh Banoth, Muda Commissioner GT Dineshkumar, and MCC Commissioner Ashad Ur Rehaman Sharief. The minister’s call for immediate action on civic issues and the pursuit of grants to resolve them highlights the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of Mysuru’s residents.
