Millions of Muslims across the world have gathered at Mount Arafat in Saudi Arabia, on what is known as the day of Arafat, to perform the apex of the annual pilgrimage in Islam. The pilgrimage, which is one of the five pillars of Islam, is considered the most sacred duty for Muslims, as they converge on Mount Arafat, also called the Mount of Mercy (Jabal Ar-Rahmah), to seek forgiveness, ask for blessings, and commit to a life of righteousness.

The day of Arafat is celebrated every year on the ninth day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah. It is regarded as the day when Islam’s last prophet, Muhammad (PBUH), delivered his final sermon, laying out the pillars of Islam and offering guidance to all his followers.

This year’s pilgrimage has seen a significant increase in numbers after being scaled back last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Saudi Arabian authorities have made proper arrangements to ensure the safety and well-being of all pilgrims. They have also invited many Muslim leaders and officials from around the world to take part in this year’s event.

One of the guests in attendance this year includes Reverend Abraham Richmond from South Africa, who served as a priest for fifteen years at a church with approximately 100,000 followers. He had visions that told him to call all of his members at the church to wear white clothes like Muslims. He then took the Shahadah (acceptance of faith) three months ago, and he has led all of his former congregation to convert to Islam.

The day of Arafat marks an essential moment for Muslims. On this day, pilgrims have a long day ahead of them, and the rest of the Muslims around the world who are of age are mostly fasting. Fasting on the day of Arafat is considered crucial because it expiates the sins of the preceding year and the coming year.

In conclusion, the day of Arafat signifies the importance of humility, forgiveness, and love for humanity, values that all religions seek to uphold. It is a day where millions of Muslims converge in one place, united by a common faith, and pray for peace, justice, and prosperity for all humankind. It is a momentous occasion that showcases the diversity of Islam and how it continues to inspire people to contribute to a better society. We wish all Muslims a blessed day of Arafat.
