Spring is the time for planting, and the Muscatine FFA hopes to provide local gardeners with all the plants they could ever need through the annual Greenhouse Plant Sale.
This year’s plant sale will begin on Friday, April 26, and will run on the three following Fridays — May 3, May 10, and May 17 — with each sale day running from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the FFA’s greenhouse, located behind Muscatine High School. During sale days, students will be on-hand to provide additional information about each plant.
Some of the flowers that can be found at this year’s plant sale include ageratums, alyssums, begonias, coleuses, celosias, Cleopatra cypris plants, dahlias, dianthuses, dusty millers, fuchsias, geranium grasses, impatiens, lantanas, marigolds, pansies, petunias, portulacas, salvias, vincas, and zinnias. Various vegetable plants, including sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers, can also be found at this year’s plant sale.
Many of the plants grown for this year’s sale were grown by the school’s horticulture students, going through the entire process from seeds and plug trays to fully-grown plants as they learn about each of the plants they grow, as well as the overall processes of a greenhouse. Plants provided through the sale are each grown with plenty of care and effort.
All profits made through the plant sale go towards supporting the FFA, providing crucial funds needed for trips and other extra needs. For more information on the Muscatine chapter, the plant sale, or other upcoming FFA events, visit the Muscatine FFA Facebook page.
