Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is set to appear before the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. This will mark his first appearance before the committee since assuming office. Mudavadi will address various issues related to the ministry at 10 am.
One of the topics Mudavadi is expected to address is the recent death of David Karira Gatuthu, a Foreign Service Officer working at Kenya’s High Commission in London. The committee will likely pose several questions to Mudavadi regarding this tragedy.
During his inauguration as the Foreign Secretary, Mudavadi emphasized Kenya’s commitment to ensuring that its citizens in the diaspora are treated with dignity and respect. He stressed that the government will not back down in its efforts to protect Kenyans wherever they may be, utilizing diplomatic tools to guarantee their safety and well-being.
Furthermore, Mudavadi expressed his belief in the importance of good conduct in global affairs, stating that it reinforces the confidence, pride, and dignity of the people. Kenya’s reputable image has allowed the country to play a constructive role in global discussions and activities.
The Cabinet Secretary also highlighted that the government’s engagement with the Kenyan diaspora goes beyond remittances. Emphasizing the importance of fundamental rights and protection for Kenyans abroad, Mudavadi pledged that the government would strive to ensure their well-being while they work to achieve their goals within the laws of their host nations.
Mudavadi assumed the role of Foreign Secretary after Alfred Mutua’s tenure and subsequent reassignment to the Tourism and Wildlife docket. The realignment of Ministries and State Departments facilitated this transition.
The upcoming committee meeting with Mudavadi comes just a week before the vetting of 27 ambassadorial nominees. It is expected that this meeting will provide valuable insights into the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs and its future direction under Mudavadi’s leadership.
As Mudavadi prepares to face the committee, Kenyans and stakeholders eagerly await his responses and insights on various issues impacting the ministry. The meeting serves as a crucial opportunity to address concerns, provide clarity, and outline the government’s vision for Kenya’s foreign affairs agenda.
