The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has developed a comprehensive plan for the cleaning and sweeping of roads that will be primarily used by delegates during the upcoming G20 events. A total of 26 out of the 66 roads have been identified for special attention, with the MCD coordinating efforts to ensure their regular maintenance.
Among the roads being targeted for cleaning and sweeping are Bhairon Marg, Purana Qila Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, Suraj Kund Road, Africa Avenue, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, and Mathura Road, among others. While the maintenance work on some stretches of these roads is currently being carried out by the Public Works Department, the MCD has taken responsibility for their cleaning and sweeping.
To effectively execute their plan, the MCD intends to allocate 60% of their 52 mechanical road sweepers to the targeted stretches a few days before the event. Additionally, the concessionaires of four construction and demolition plants have been instructed to attend to any debris complaints within two hours, significantly reducing the usual 72-hour response time.
The MCD has released Rs 15 lakh for each of the 13 maintenance divisions in the central, south, Karol Bagh, and city Sadar Paharganj zones, providing funds for emergency work. Each road will have an appointed team responsible for tasks such as repairing roads, lifting garbage, debris, mowing grass, and hiring laborers.
In order to prevent the spread of dengue fever, the MCD is also focusing on implementing measures around the G20 venues, monuments, hotels, shopping malls, famous markets, and areas where delegates may gather. Officials have been actively engaging with resident welfare associations, market associations, and other departments to raise awareness and encourage public participation in maintaining a breeding-free environment.
Overall, the MCD is working diligently to ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of crucial roads during the G20 events. Through their coordinated efforts and allocation of resources, they are determined to create a seamless and hygienic environment for delegates and visitors alike.
