Two years after undergoing a heart transplant, Mumbai student Devendra Dubey has scored an impressive 74.1% in his HSC arts exam. Dubey has faced life-changing adversities including a cardiac failure diagnosis and the loss of his state-level boxer brother Gajendra, to a similar heart condition a few years ago.
In December 2020, Devendra was hospitalized at the Fortis Hospital when he was 15 to determine the medical condition he was suffering from. Following successful criteria checks on January 21, 2021 at 6 pm, Devendra went into the operation theatre at 2 am the next day to receive his heart donation.
Despite having to cope with the after-effects of his transplant, including foot drop which makes it difficult for him to use both his legs, Devendra has still managed to do impressive work within his National Service Scheme (NSS) group at Bhavan’s Colleage in Andheri, and to sit his board exams as a regular student.
Devendra credits his parents and their unconditional support, the heart donor, and the grace of God, for his positive outcome. His future ambitions include pursuing a Bachelor of Management Sciences (BMS).
