A mum of two has taken a firm stance on her children’s diet, refusing to give them meat and stating that doing so would be borderline abuse. Kerry Messenger, a 44-year-old vegan, has raised her daughters, Isla Messenger (10) and Morgan Messenger (9), on a plant-based diet since birth. The children have embraced their mother’s beliefs so fervently that they now find the idea of drinking cow’s milk weird.
Kerry’s decision stems from her concerns about the long-term health risks associated with consuming red meat. She firmly believes that red meat, like alcohol and smoking, is a carcinogen that can lead to diseases such as cancer. As a result, she feels that giving her children such products would be tantamount to abuse. Kerry noted, They have never even tried it.
The mother vehemently denies forcing her beliefs on her children, insisting that she merely educates them about the reality of animals and their place in the world. She believes that they are emotionally mature and would not choose to eat meat even as they grow older. They understand we respect everything that lives, Kerry added. We don’t eat one animal and pet another.
Kerry adopted a vegan lifestyle 20 years ago when the options for vegans were limited. She vividly recalls a diet consisting of rolls and bananas due to the scarcity of vegan alternatives. However, she expresses gratitude for the significant improvements in vegan offerings today, applauding the dedicated food ranges for vegans in supermarkets.
