Multiple Shootings in Fort Chipewyan: Two Suspects Charged

Two suspects have been charged in connection with a series of shootings that occurred in Fort Chipewyan, Alberta. The incidents have left residents concerned and the local authorities on high alert. Mitchell Marta, 37, of Grande Prairie, and Gregory Douglas Paquette, 34, of Fort Chipewyan are facing multiple firearm charges and arson.

The first shooting took place in the early morning hours of August 13. According to Fort Chipewyan RCMP, a single gunshot was fired at a home, injuring one person. By the time the police arrived at the scene, the shooter had already fled. Although the injuries sustained were minor, it sent shockwaves throughout the community.

Just over a week later, on the evening of August 21, another shooting occurred at the same residence. Police reported that multiple bullets were fired at the home, and to make matters worse, a vehicle was set ablaze. Authorities released a photo of a person of interest and were able to locate and interview them with the help of concerned citizens. However, this incident raised further concerns about the safety of the neighborhood.

The situation escalated even further on the evening of August 25 when a third shooting took place, this time involving two different homes. Multiple gunshots were fired, causing fear and panic among residents. Fortunately, the police were able to apprehend one suspect without incident. Shortly after, on September 2, a second suspect was also arrested in Fort Chipewyan. The arrests of both Marta and Paquette have provided some relief to the community, knowing that those responsible for these terrifying incidents are now in custody.

Both Marta and Paquette are scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Chipewyan on September 7 to face the charges against them. As the legal process unfolds, authorities urge anyone with information about any missing individuals or criminal activity related to these incidents to come forward. Wood Buffalo RCMP can be reached at 780-788-4040, while Crime Stoppers provides an anonymous tip line at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) Or can be sent to cityprotect.com

The series of shootings in Fort Chipewyan has shaken the community and highlighted the need for increased vigilance when it comes to ensuring public safety. The quick response and diligent efforts of the RCMP have led to the arrest of the two suspects, providing reassurance to residents. However, the investigation is ongoing, and authorities continue to ask for the public’s assistance in providing any relevant information.

Fort Chipewyan, a small and tight-knit community, is now mobilizing to support each other and strengthen their neighborhood’s security measures. The incidents have sparked conversations about the importance of community watch programs and the need for continued cooperation between residents and law enforcement.

It is crucial that the residents of Fort Chipewyan remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. By working together, they can ensure the safety and well-being of their community.

As the legal proceedings develop, it is expected that further updates will be provided concerning the case against Marta and Paquette. The Fort Chipewyan community hopes for a swift resolution and a return to peace and security that they deserve.
