MSNBC Anchor Describes MAGA as a Cult, Likening Trump to Jim Jones

In a recent episode of The ReidOut on MSNBC, anchor Joy Reid made some striking statements regarding the MAGA movement and its allegiance to former President Donald Trump. Reid went as far as calling MAGA a cult and comparing Trump to Jim Jones, the infamous leader responsible for the mass suicide in Jonestown.

With the first Republican presidential primary debate approaching, Reid pointed out that Trump has decided to skip the Fox-hosted event in favor of spending time at his Bedminster club. This move raised questions about whether primary voters would still be interested in watching without Trump’s presence. Recent polls suggest that many of them remain devoted to Trump, with 42% of likely Republican caucus goers in Iowa choosing him as their top choice. Another CBS poll showed that Trump was favored by 62% of likely Republican primary voters.

Reid highlighted the intriguing devotion of Trump’s followers. She stated that among Trump voters, a staggering 71% consider him as their most trusted source of information, surpassing even friends, family, conservative media, and religious leaders. This finding may come as a surprise, given that the Republican Party is often associated with white evangelicals and Christian nationalists. However, Reid argued that it is not entirely unexpected given the cult-like nature of MAGA and Trump’s influence over his supporters.

Describing MAGA as a cult, Reid drew a comparison to Jim Jones, the leader of the Peoples Temple, who led his followers to a mass suicide in Jonestown, Guyana, in 1978. She referred to Trump as the Jim Jones to their Kool-Aid crew, hinting at the blind loyalty and unwavering support his followers exhibit. According to Reid, this loyalty persists even though Trump is currently facing RICO charges and is speculated to be running for president to avoid potential legal consequences rather than serving the nation.

The statements made by Joy Reid regarding MAGA being a cult and Donald Trump assumedly playing the role of Jim Jones to his followers have sparked both controversy and discussion. While it is important to consider different perspectives on the matter, these remarks shed light on the intense loyalty exhibited by many Trump supporters and the impact he continues to have within the Republican Party.
