Farmers in Amzhera tehsil of Dhar district have raised concerns about the Mahi-Narmada Lift Irrigation project. The project is aimed at providing water to 66 villages in the district but farmers are unhappy with the poor construction quality and irregularities in the laying of pipelines.
The irregularities were discovered in Minda village where pipes were laid in such a way that they began surfacing on the ground. Farmers complained that even the joints were found open and pits dug out by JCB disturbed the levelling of their farms.
Despite a memorandum being handed over to Collector Priyank Mishra regarding the irregularities, they have not been addressed.
The irrigation project was intended to be the lifeline for farmers. However, the negligence of officials concerned has led to poor construction quality, which has disrupted the lives of farmers.
Neha Shubham Dixit, an Amzhera janpad panchayat member, demanded immediate action in the interest of farmers. The contractor responded by claiming the work was being carried out following orders.
It is important that officials responsible for the project are held accountable and that farmers’ concerns are addressed. The livelihoods of many people in Dhar district are at stake, and it is crucial to ensure the success of irrigation projects.
