MP Accuses Mahua Moitra of Corruption: Alleges Money for Questions in Parliament
In a recent development, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has been accused of receiving money in exchange for asking questions in Parliament. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey responded to Moitra’s previous allegations against him, stating that the focus should now shift to whether she resorted to monetary transactions in Parliament.
Dubey took to social media to question Moitra’s integrity, raising concerns about Parliament’s decorum, national security, and the MP’s propriety, corruption, and criminality. He demanded answers regarding the alleged accessing of NIC mails in Dubai, whether questions were asked in return for money, and who funded her trips abroad. Dubey further questioned if Moitra had obtained permission from the Lok Sabha Speaker and External Affairs Ministry for her trips.
The controversy between the two MPs arose after Moitra targeted Dubey’s degrees, accusing him of holding fake qualifications. However, Dubey denied these allegations.
On the other hand, Moitra herself has faced allegations of receiving Rs 2 crore in cash from businessman Darshan Hiranandani for asking questions in Parliament. Following these allegations, Dubey has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, urging an investigation into the bribery charges against Moitra, including claims that she shared her parliament login credentials with Hiranandani. Moitra vehemently denied these allegations.
Dubey has even called for a Lokpal probe into Moitra’s conduct, referring to a letter by Supreme Court lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai containing disturbing facts with detailed proof. The BJP MP’s complaint has been forwarded to the Lok Sabha ethics panel for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Darshan Hiranandani, the businessman at the center of the controversy, stated in an affidavit that Moitra frequently asked him for favors, including expensive luxury items. He also alleged that she provided him with her parliament login credentials and used her attacks on the Adani Group as a means to gain attention and fame.
In response to the allegations, Moitra argued that an MP’s login credentials are often utilized by multiple individuals, including assistants and interns. She even challenged the government to publicize login data for all MPs.
As the BJP questions why the Trinamool leadership has not taken action against Moitra, the party has stated that appropriate measures will be taken once the Lok Sabha panel concludes its investigation.
