Family and friends gathered on Friday to honor the memory of Christina Abner, a 33-year-old mother who tragically lost her life in a domestic violence incident in southeast Houston. Christina’s husband, 35-year-old Keith Lee, is facing murder charges for shooting her along with three counts of injury to a child. The vigil included a balloon release as a tribute to Christina, during which her brother Brandon Abner emotionally expressed his heartbreak.

Describing Christina as a wonderful mother, sister, and friend, Brandon tearfully recollected the love she had for her children and her husband. He emphasized the devastating circumstances surrounding her untimely death, urging others who may be experiencing similar situations to seek help and learn from this tragic example.

The Abner family is now faced with the difficult task of picking up the pieces after this horrific incident. In an effort to provide support, they have set up a GoFundMe account to help cover the necessary arrangements. Brandon called on the community to contribute, whether monetarily or through prayers for his grieving family.

Reflecting on his sister’s character, Brandon emphasized that Christina will be deeply missed by all who knew her. He expressed the importance of speaking up and seeking assistance when faced with dangerous situations, lamenting how individuals often suffer in silence.

Christina’s three children are now on a long road to recovery, with two of them recently released from the hospital. However, their three-year-old sibling remains hospitalized in fair condition. The family has scheduled Christina’s funeral for December 30 at Next Generation Church in Houston.

To address the widespread issue of domestic violence, KPRC 2 News has created a series titled Breaking Free, which sheds light on the subject and provides resources for those in need. The series highlights personal stories of survival and tragedy, aiming to help victims find the support and assistance necessary to escape abusive situations.

If you or someone you know requires immediate help, several free domestic violence resources are available. The Houston Area Women’s Center can be reached at (713) 528-2121, and the National Domestic Violence Hotline is accessible at (800) 799-7233. In emergency situations, please dial 911.

This heartbreaking story serves as a poignant reminder of the urgency to address domestic violence. Through increased awareness, support, and accessible resources, we can strive for a future where no one has to endure the pain and loss suffered by Christina Abner and her loved ones.
