ST. LOUIS — A tragic accident occurred in downtown St. Louis when a speeding driver ran a red light and struck two pedestrians, killing them both. The victims have been identified as Laticha Bracero, 42, and her daughter Alyssa Cordova, 21, who had traveled from Chicago for a Drake concert.
The incident took place at around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the intersection of 18th and Olive streets. According to the police, a Jeep Cherokee was speeding down Olive when it collided with two vehicles, causing a chain reaction that ultimately led to the fatal collision with Bracero and Cordova.
Bracero died on the scene, while Cordova was rushed to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
This tragic accident once again highlights the issue of reckless and dangerous driving in the city, coming just a year after a similar incident involving a visiting volleyball player who suffered severe leg injuries. City officials have pledged to continue their efforts to redesign streets and implement traffic calming measures to prevent further tragedies.
Further updates on this developing story will be provided as more information becomes available.
