In a tragic incident, a drive-by shooting in Moses Lake, Washington has turned fatal as one of the teenage victims has succumbed to their injuries. According to Grant County Sheriff’s investigators, the shooting took place on Sunday night, resulting in the death of an 18-year-old at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland. The authorities have arrested a suspected gang member in connection with the incident.
The shocking incident unfolded when the teenage victims were traveling in a car on Highway 17 between Grape Drive and Patton Boulevard. A red vehicle allegedly drove slowly in the fast lane, leading the driver of a black vehicle to tailgate them. The driver of the black vehicle claimed that the driver of the red vehicle flashed a gun at him, prompting him to back off. Responding to the situation, the driver of the black vehicle retrieved a .40-caliber Glock model pistol from a briefcase and fired several shots at the red vehicle.
Tragically, the victims’ car veered off the highway, flipping over and resulting in severe injuries. One of the 18-year-olds was shot in the head, while the other sustained a gunshot wound in the shoulder. Both victims were rushed to the hospital, where the teenager who was shot in the head later succumbed to their injuries.
After a brief pursuit, with speeds reaching 120 miles per hour, law enforcement managed to pull over and apprehend the suspected shooter. The individual has been identified as 20-year-old Sergio Higuera from Moses Lake. He is currently facing charges of two counts of first-degree assault and one count of drive-by shooting. Detectives will further investigate the case, gather evidence, and present it to the prosecuting attorneys who will determine the final charges.
Detectives have discovered that the suspect, Higuera, claims affiliation with a gang and believed that the occupants of the red car were also gang members. Higuera disclosed to detectives that his association with the gang had made him constantly fear becoming a target of a shooting.
