A GANGSTER’S moll is facing the loss of her home, the very place where she planned the brutal torture and murder of her ex-husband. Coleen Campbell, a 38-year-old mother of four, was sentenced to 13 years in prison earlier this year for sharing information about her ex-husband Thomas Campbell with John Belfield, the mastermind behind the killing.
The chilling CCTV footage captures Coleen wearing pink pyjamas, engrossed in a conversation with Belfield in her garden just hours before the savage attack took place. Thomas, 38, was ambushed by three men at the front door of his house in Mossley, Tameside in July 2022. He was forcibly taken inside and subjected to a two-hour ordeal of barbaric torture that resulted in his death.
Now, Coleen is set to lose the house in Clayton, Manchester, where she hatched the plot. She and Thomas had invested a significant amount of money in renovating the property, including adding a two-storey extension. However, the funds they used for their luxurious lifestyle were tainted, leading to both of them admitting to money laundering in 2019. Thomas received a two-year jail sentence, while Coleen was given a suspended prison sentence of 16 months.
Following a recent hearing, Coleen has been ordered to pay £76,500 within three months, which will be deducted from the equity in her home that is currently up for sale. Failure to meet this payment deadline could result in an additional nine months being added to Coleen’s existing prison sentence.
During her association with Belfield, Coleen engaged in numerous meetings and exchanges of phone calls and messages as they conspired to rob her former husband. She provided crucial details about Thomas, including his van’s registration plate and his house number. Police footage also reveals the placement of a tracking device on Thomas’ car while he dropped off his daughter at school. Belfield and his accomplices, Reece Steven and Stephen Cleworth, utilized this information to conduct reconnaissance missions on Thomas’ home.
On July 2, 2022, three men ambushed Thomas as he arrived home. They forcibly pushed him inside, while he desperately cried out for help. Inside, he endured a horrific two-hour assault characterized by extreme brutality. Thomas was subjected to stabbing, punching, and stamping, as well as scalding with boiling water on his buttocks. Bloodstains covered the walls of his newly built home as he was bound and subjected to further torment. The attackers ransacked the house, seizing whatever money or drugs they could find. Thomas was left to die in the hallway and was discovered by a neighbor the following day. The violent attack resulted in Thomas suffering 61 separate injuries.
The harrowing details of this case have shocked the local community and served as a reminder of the depths of human depravity. Coleen’s impending loss of her home adds another layer of consequences to this gruesome crime. As the investigation and legal proceedings continue, it is hoped that justice will be served and that the memory of Thomas Campbell can be honored by holding those responsible fully accountable for their actions.
