Moises Caicedo Cut from Brighton & Hove Albion Squad Ahead of New Premier League Season

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi has made it clear that midfielder Moises Caicedo is no longer part of the club’s future plans as they gear up for the new Premier League season. This announcement comes just before their match against Luton Town on Saturday.

Caicedo, a talented 21-year-old, had been the subject of transfer speculation after an impressive season at Brighton. With 37 appearances under his belt, he played a crucial role in Brighton’s sixth-place finish and their qualification for European competition.

During the summer transfer window, Caicedo garnered interest from several clubs, including Chelsea. However, British media reports on Friday revealed that Liverpool had secured a deal worth a staggering £111 million (approximately USD 140.90 million) with Brighton.

I have already moved on from Moises. I am extremely proud of the players we currently have in our squad, De Zerbi stated in a press conference. We want to continue improving, and the credit goes to the club. Bigger clubs may be able to buy our players, but they can’t buy our passion and spirit. We are still in need of more players to complete the squad. I want players who genuinely want to be here.

Brighton’s focus is on continuous improvement, and De Zerbi emphasized the importance of the team’s spirit and identity, qualities that cannot be purchased by bigger clubs. He acknowledged the need for new additions to bolster the squad, saying, We are Brighton. We accomplished a significant feat last year, similar to Liverpool and even superior to Chelsea. I want players who take pride in representing Brighton.

As they prepare for their season opener against newly-promoted Luton, De Zerbi cautioned his team against complacency, reminding them of the importance of giving their best on the pitch. Our motivation and spirit are crucial. We have to fight if we want to win; we have to play like a top-tier team, De Zerbi emphasized.

These statements underscore Brighton’s determination for the upcoming season, as they aim to replicate or surpass their achievements from the previous campaign. The club’s ambition is apparent, as they strive for success and progression. With their sights set on continued improvement, Brighton hopes to make an impact in the Premier League once again.
