The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) in Dubai is taking significant steps to enhance women’s health in the UAE. They have announced the initiation of a national policy focused on providing tailored healthcare to women within a unified, multisectoral framework. This policy aims to address the unique health needs of women throughout their lives and support the UAE’s efforts in delivering the best physical and psychological healthcare services for women.

The new policy will be built upon core values such as leadership support, governance, gender equality in health, a holistic life cycle approach to health, and a commitment to quality and inclusivity in women’s health services. It will emphasize the integration of women’s health across all policy areas and the principle of shared responsibility.

Abdul Rahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, the Minister of Health and Prevention, highlighted the UAE’s dedication to promoting healthcare standards and achieving sustainable development in the health sector. He emphasized that women’s health is not only an integral part of this vision but also a testament to the nation’s commitment to its people.

To consolidate efforts across sectors and enhance women’s health, the Ministry organized a workshop in conjunction with the celebrations of Emirati Women’s Day. The workshop aimed to develop a unified national framework and improve preventive and curative healthcare services for women throughout their lives. It was attended by representatives from health authorities, officials, public health experts, and partners dedicated to promoting women’s health.

During the workshop, discussions revolved around bolstering maternal and reproductive health, combating chronic diseases prevalent among women, providing mental health support, ensuring elderly care for women, and implementing tailored health education and awareness initiatives for women of different age groups in the UAE.

Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, praised the collaborative efforts between MoHAP and stakeholders in shaping the national policy to advance women’s health. He highlighted the unique status of women in the UAE and their pivotal roles in societal contributions, particularly within the health sector.

Dr. Lubna Al Shaali, Director of Public Health Policy Department, affirmed that work is underway to draft a preliminary version of the national policy to bolster women’s health. This draft will align with the directives of the UAE government and global best practices.

The initiative taken by the MoHAP is a significant step towards prioritizing women’s health in the UAE. By providing tailored healthcare services, integrating women’s health across all policy areas, and emphasizing shared responsibility, the nation is demonstrating its commitment to the well-being of its female population.
