Moeen cited the first Test match being in Birmingham as a significant factor in his decision to come out of retirement. The ceremony was attended by Moeen’s wife, parents, and Brendon McCullum, the England head coach. Moeen will bat at number eight and provide spin-bowling support for the team led by Ben Stokes.
