The Congress party has criticized the Modi government, accusing it of turning democracy into mobocracy in the wake of a viral video from Manipur. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the nation about the ethnic violence in Manipur, stating that humanity has died in Manipur. Kharge also accused the government of destroying the social fabric of the state and called for accountability.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh echoed these sentiments, highlighting the government’s delayed response to the violence in Manipur. He criticized the Women and Child Development Minister, Smriti Irani, for waiting 76 days to speak to the Chief Minister of Manipur or issue a statement. Ramesh questioned the government’s awareness of the situation and called for action.
Rahul Gandhi, another Congress leader, also voiced his concerns, stating that the opposition coalition will not stay silent while the idea of India is being attacked in Manipur. He expressed solidarity with the people of Manipur and emphasized the need for peace.
The Congress party has been demanding a discussion in Parliament on the situation in Manipur, as the violence since May 3 has resulted in multiple deaths. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi stated that the government is prepared for a discussion during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
