Moderate Rain Expected in Six Districts of Maharashtra for the Next 3-4 Hours, According to IMD
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted moderate rainfall in six districts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, for the next 3-4 hours. The districts expected to experience moderate showers are Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, and Raigad.
The IMD Mumbai issued a nowcast warning at 13:00 hrs, stating that moderate spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in the mentioned districts during the stipulated time frame. The forecast comes after heavy rainfall caused severe waterlogging in several areas of Maharashtra on Saturday.
In Bhiwandi, the heavy downpour led to severe waterlogging, with cars partially submerged in water. The IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts for Sunday. Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for heavy rainfall in isolated places in Mumbai for the following day.
In Yavatmal, the Indian Air Force conducted a rescue operation to evacuate stranded individuals in Anand Nagar village due to flooding. Yavatmal collector Amol Yedge stated that the district witnessed a flood-like situation in several areas, with 240 mm of rain recorded. With the help of the State Disaster Response Force and the Indian Air Force, 219 people were safely shifted.
The prevailing floods and landslides caused by incessant rainfall were discussed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and his family members during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital. They briefed PM Modi about the situation.
