Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer Madhup Vyas recently conducted a meeting with poll officials to strategize ways to boost voter turnout in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the state. Concerned about the historically low turnout in national elections compared to state assembly polls, the CEO emphasized the need for increased participation. In a bid to replicate the success of the high turnout seen in last year’s assembly elections, where Mizoram shone with one of the country’s highest rates, Vyas aimed to tackle the underwhelming 63.13 percent turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. With the state gearing up for polls on April 19, the focus lies on enhancing voter education efforts, particularly targeting youth and first-time voters. By engaging various departments and launching micro-level awareness campaigns, the goal is to inspire a stronger voter presence this election season.
