A mango festival held in Raipur, India recently showcased the world’s costliest mango, Miyazaki. The fruit, which weighs 639 grams, is grown exclusively in Japan and commands a high price of Rs 2.7 lakh per kilogram, equivalent to around $3,600. The mango was displayed at the festival, where retired Coal India general manager RP Gupta explained that it is highly prized as a corporate gift. The price tag is due to the intensive care required to cultivate the fruit and the fact that the taste varies depending on which part of the fruit was exposed to sunlight.
