The library will be closed for the Christmas holiday Dec. 24, 25, and 26. Patrons can access their accounts at missoulapubliclibrary.org/ to renew materials and place holds. Happy Holidays from our family to yours!

YMCA Yoga at the Library

Missoula Public Library is thrilled to partner with Missoula Family YMCA to offer free yoga at the library! On Dec. 28 from noon to 1 p.m. in Cooper Room A on Level Four of the library, we will focus on basic yoga postures, alignment principles, and breathing techniques that help balance, strengthen, and stretch the body. This class is recommended for those wishing to strengthen the foundation of their practice or who simply want an ongoing practice in harmony with their level of strength, balance, and flexibility. Beginners are welcome! Participants must sign a liability waiver prior to class. Download the waiver (PDF) here tinyurl.com/2994wjww. Participants are welcome to bring their own yoga mat or use one of ours.

MCAT: Introduction to Podcasting

Learn how to use MCAT’s podcasting equipment, which features headphones and microphones for up to four participants. A smartphone connection makes doing phone interviews clear and easy. This program is held on Dec. 28 from 2 to 3 p.m. at MCAT on Level One of the library. Find out more by calling MCAT instructors at 406-542-6228.

Tiny Tales

Tiny Tales uses sounds, rhythms, and movement to help your child learn to read! Participants will sing songs, learn finger-plays and nursery rhymes, and hear stories every Thursday and Friday. Join us for our next Tiny Tales on Dec. 28 and 29 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in the Imaginarium on Level Two of the library.

Missoula Reads 2023 Logs due

Everyone that participated in the 2023 Missoula Reads Challenge should turn in their completed reading logs by 5 p.m. on Dec. 29. Everyone that turns in their completed log will be eligible for a fabulous prize! Prizes will be awarded, and logs will be returned in January. The Missoula Reads 2024 challenge begins Jan. 2 with a new list of categories. On Jan. 2, the 2024 reading categories will be posted online, and the reading logs will be available on Level Three of the library. Story Time

Missoula Public Library’s Story Time is for children ages 3 and older and their caregivers. Join us on Dec. 29 and 30 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Art Box on Level Two of the library for stories and fun. Friday’s Story Time is recorded and posted online at a later date on the library’s official website and YouTube channel.

Special SpectrUM Discovery Area Theme: Chemistry in a Bag

SpectrUM staff will lead this special guided science activity on Dec. 29 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Discovery Bench on Level Two of the library. In this fun and easy activity, students not only hold an experiment in their hands to see and feel what chemistry is all about, they also practice the key skills that are the backbone of the scientific method! No registration is required for this program.

Young Adult Writers’ Group

For writers and aspiring writers ages 16-19. We share our work aloud, including poems, stories, songs, rants, and novels, and give and receive respectful feedback. All genres, tones, and styles are welcome. We laugh, we shiver, we cringe, we swoon, and we enjoy words! The next group is held on Dec. 29 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Art Box and virtually on Zoom. MCAT Stop Animation Workshop for Kids

Kids can have fun together, learn some computer skills, and express themselves artistically in MCAT’s free, two-hour workshop session for education and play. This workshop offers Lego Stop Animation, animated drawing, and live-action skits suitable for kids ages 9 to 13. The next workshop is held on Dec. 30 from 2 to 6 p.m. in MCAT on Level One of the library. For more information, call 406-542-6228.

Dungeons & Dragons Guild for Teens

Missoula Public Library offers an ongoing online Dungeons & Dragons game for teens aged 12-17 every other Saturday. The next meeting will meet virtually on Dec. 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. Beginners are welcome, but space is limited. Missoula on Main…and Beyond: All Under One Roof Partner Events

Join Missoula Public Library and our All Under One Roof partners – spectrUM Discovery Area, Missoula’s Community Media Resource (MCAT), and UM Living Lab – to celebrate Missoula on Main…and Beyond! This annual art and culture celebration, now in its 30th year, is presented by ARTS Missoula. Join us for tons of fun and events for all ages on Dec. 31 from noon to 4 p.m. throughout the library. Library services will be limited to Level One self-service resources only during this event.
