A disfigured woman from Minnesota has filed a $50,000 civil lawsuit against her dentist, Dr. Kevin Molldrem, alleging that he rushed her dental treatment for a rare form of tooth decay. Kathleen Wilson claims that the dentist attempted to complete multiple procedures, including eight dental crowns, four root canals, and 20 fillings, in a single visit. Wilson further accuses Molldrem of providing an excessive amount of anesthesia, nearly double the recommended dosage, and falsifying her medical records to avoid liability.

According to Dr. Avrum Goldtein, a dental expert from Florida, the numerous procedures attempted on Wilson were impossible to finish correctly in one appointment. Goldtein emphasized the need for a slow and measured response to Wilson’s condition. He stated that trying to address all the dental issues in a single visit not only contradicted the recommended approach but was also inhumane given the complex nature of the treatment.

Following her alleged botched surgeries in July 2020, Wilson sought the help of other dentists. She reported experiencing pain, embarrassment, disfigurement, and distress as a result of Molldrem’s work. Eventually, in 2022, Wilson received proper treatment from the University of Minnesota Dental School, which aimed to repair and replace many of her restorations and stabilize her oral health.

The disfigured woman’s case highlights the importance of providing appropriate and personalized dental care. Rushing treatments and attempting to address multiple complex issues in a single visit can lead to severe consequences. Patients must receive comprehensive and thoughtful care tailored to their specific needs. Wilson’s lawsuit seeks compensation for the damages she alleges she suffered due to Molldrem’s alleged negligence.

As this legal battle unfolds, it serves as a reminder for dental professionals to prioritize patient safety, uphold ethical standards, and ensure accurate record-keeping. The outcome of this case could potentially have implications for dental practices and their approach to treating patients with similar conditions.
