The Ministry of Education in Jordan is planning to establish 30 schools annually to accommodate the growing student population. Esam Abu Ahmadah, the director of the Department of Buildings and International Projects at the Ministry of Education, has stated that this move is necessary to cater to the approximately 25,000 new students who join public schools each year. According to the Ministry’s 2022 annual statistical report, the number of schools in Jordan has increased to over 7,300 by the end of 2022, compared to 7,127 in the previous year.

Out of the total number of schools, 4,005 are government schools, while 3,093 are private schools. The report highlights a significant increase of 150 private schools compared to the previous year. In 2022, the student population in Jordan reached 2,244,751, with approximately 1,634,673 students attending public schools, and 466,224 students enrolled in private institutions.

The maintenance cost for Jordan’s schools is an ongoing process that amounts to JD14 million annually. The Ministry of Education has been actively involved in renovation and construction works to ensure the quality and adequacy of school infrastructure. In 2020, they carried out maintenance work on 39 schools and constructed six new buildings. The following year, maintenance was done on 51 schools, and nine new buildings were constructed. In 2022, maintenance work was conducted on 42 schools, and an impressive 12 new buildings were constructed, including additional classrooms and fully integrated schools.

The Ministry of Education’s efforts to establish new schools and maintain existing ones reflect their commitment to providing a conducive learning environment for the expanding student population. By addressing the growing need for educational facilities, the government aims to enhance the quality of education in Jordan. This initiative will ensure that students have access to appropriate infrastructure and resources, promoting their overall academic and personal development.

The establishment of new schools not only caters to the increasing student enrollment but also creates employment opportunities for educators and support staff. It is a multifaceted approach that not only benefits the students but also contributes to the socio-economic growth of the country.

As Jordan continues to invest in the education sector, it is crucial to prioritize the quality of education, teacher training programs, and curriculum development. By addressing these aspects, the Ministry of Education can further enhance the educational experience for students and equip them with the necessary skills to succeed in the future.

The efforts of the Ministry of Education are commendable, as they actively respond to the demands of an expanding student population. The establishment of 30 schools annually demonstrates their commitment to providing accessible and inclusive education to all. With the continuous improvement of school infrastructure and resources, Jordan is striving to become a leading educational hub in the region.
