BHOPAL: The Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change has initiated an inquiry into allegations of a chicken party organized inside the Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR), involving Madhya Pradesh minister Kunwar Vijay Shah and his associates.
The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has requested an update from the state government regarding the actions taken in response to a complaint filed by wildlife activist Ajay Dubey.
Dubey’s complaint states that certain officials from STR facilitated a visit for Harsud MLA Vijay Shah and his companions to Rorighat Siddhababa hill in private vehicles, where they organized a chicken party. It should be noted that such activities are strictly prohibited within the core area.
Despite the ongoing investigation, no report or action has been taken so far. Notably, two videos allegedly showing the chicken party have emerged, with one featuring Minister Shah himself.
Minister Shah, who previously held the position of Forest Minister, was recently re-inducted into the cabinet; however, portfolios have not yet been assigned.
We take these allegations seriously and are committed to investigating the matter thoroughly, said an official from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. The protection and preservation of our natural reserves are of utmost importance to us.
Ajay Dubey, the wildlife activist who filed the complaint, expressed his disappointment over the delay in the investigation. It is disheartening to see precious wildlife reserves being misused for personal enjoyment. Those responsible must be held accountable to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future, Dubey emphasized.
Meanwhile, conservationists and wildlife experts have expressed their concerns, highlighting the potential negative impact of such activities on the delicate flora and fauna of the tiger reserve.
It is crucial to protect the delicate ecological balance within reserves like Satpura Tiger Reserve, which are home to numerous endangered species.
The NTCA’s request for an update reflects the seriousness with which they are treating this matter. By seeking an explanation from the Madhya Pradesh government, they aim to ensure that appropriate action is taken to safeguard the integrity of the protected area and its wildlife.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details about potential actions and sanctions against those involved are expected to be revealed in due course.
Keeping in mind the principles of transparency, accountability, and ethics, the demand for a comprehensive report highlights the determination to protect India’s natural heritage and send a strong message that any illegal activities compromising the integrity of these reserves will not be tolerated.
The Satpura Tiger Reserve is one of India’s significant tiger habitats, with the promotion of conservation and protection being key objectives. The allegations of a chicken party being organized within its premises have sparked outrage among environmentalists and observers, who now eagerly await the outcome of the investigation.
As the situation unfolds, it remains crucial to prioritize the preservation of our natural reserves and wildlife, ensuring they are protected for generations to come.
