Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), Shabista Zaki, has denounced the Mayor of Bhopal, Malti Rai, claiming that she actively takes all files to her residence for decision making, thereby delaying the achievement of development objectives, more so with the pending Assembly elections. According to the LoP, BMC Commissioner KVS Chaudhary is not pleased with Mayor Rai’s practice of taking every file to her residence before it is even forwarded to him. The LoP also went ahead to claim that Mayor Rai’s ties with State Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang, who is also the MLA of Narela Assembly constituency where the Mayor resides, is an indication of the former’s influential role in BMC’s decision making.
At a recent council meeting, the BMC Commissioner was asked to explain the delay in the release of development funds. BJP Corporator Yogendra Guddu Chauhan accused the chairman of BMC, Kishan Suryavanshi, for failing to lodge a complaint against Akhtar Enterprises for illegal collection of two-wheeler parking charges in New Market.
