Nexstar Media Group, Inc. has announced the promotion of Mike Spruill to Vice President and General Manager of its broadcast and digital operations in Nashville, Tennessee. In his new role, Spruill will oversee WKRN-TV (ABC), wkrn.com, and their related social media channels. With over 30 years of experience in broadcast television marketing and sales, Spruill brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position.

Previously, Spruill served as Vice President and General Manager for Nexstar-owned KRBK-TV (FOX), KOZL-TV (MyNet), and Ozarksfirst.com in Springfield, Missouri. During his tenure there, Spruill and his team successfully expanded evening news on KRBK-TV by five hours per week and launched several new local sports and lifestyle programs. They were also able to secure the rights to Kansas City Chiefs preseason football games for KOZL-TV. Spruill’s leadership resulted in substantial revenue growth and significant community partnerships.

Spruill has a previous connection to Nashville, having served as WKRN’s General Sales Manager from 2015 to early 2020. During that time, he played a crucial role in growing broadcasting and digital revenue at WKRN-TV and wkrn.com. He was also responsible for forging a local partnership between WKRN-TV and the NFL’s Tennessee Titans, expanding the station’s reach across multiple markets.

Mike Vaughn, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager for Nexstar, expressed confidence in Spruill’s abilities, stating, He has had a great run in Springfield and is a highly qualified broadcasting professional who has generated strong results everywhere he has worked for more than three decades.

In his new role, Spruill is eager to return to the Nashville market and leverage the rich legacy of WKRN-TV and wkrn.com in serving the community. He believes in Nexstar’s commitment to local content and the unique advertising and marketing solutions they offer.

Spruill’s experience extends beyond broadcasting. He has served as Chairman of the Board of the American Cancer Society of Southwest Missouri and been involved in various civic and community initiatives in both Springfield and Nashville.

With his extensive background in broadcast television and sales, Spruill is well-equipped to lead Nexstar’s operations in Nashville. His ability to cultivate client relationships, drive revenue growth, and develop meaningful community partnerships make him an ideal choice for this position.

Mike Spruill is excited to embark on this new chapter and work alongside the talented staff at WKRN-TV and wkrn.com. His dedication to delivering exceptional content and comprehensive advertising and marketing solutions will undoubtedly benefit viewers, advertisers, and the Nashville community as a whole.
