Microsoft is set to provide Japan’s government with its advanced ChatGPT AI technology to facilitate clerical work and analysis. This move marks the first deployment of this technology in Asia and aims to enhance administrative services and streamline employee tasks.

According to NikkeiAsia, Microsoft will supply Japan’s government with GPT-4, a powerful language model supporting ChatGPT’s human-like interaction. Additionally, AI technology from Meta, Facebook’s parent company, will also be incorporated into the system. To ensure the security of confidential information, Microsoft has equipped its data centers in Tokyo and Osaka with high-processing power equipment.

The Digital Agency of Japan plans to allocate over $2 million for a one-year trial of the technology. This trial will involve various tasks such as generating draft responses to parliamentary queries, preparing minutes, and analyzing government statistics. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality and efficiency of administrative services within the country.

Microsoft’s focus is to enhance the AI’s accuracy in the Japanese language, addressing a previous weak point. To achieve this, the company will accumulate data that suits the requirements of Japan’s government, which involves handling a substantial amount of administrative information. Furthermore, locating the data centers domestically will not only ensure security but also benefit Japanese companies, especially those dealing with confidential data such as financial institutions, by making the adoption of AI services easier.

The Liberal Democratic Party, representing Japan’s ruling coalition, believes that generative AI can significantly contribute to improving administrative services. As a result, multiple government agencies including the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry are considering adopting this AI technology.

By collaborating with Microsoft and leveraging its advanced AI technology, Japan’s government aims to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and overall quality of administrative tasks. This partnership signifies a step forward in leveraging cutting-edge technology to streamline government operations and improve public services.

In conclusion, Microsoft’s provision of its ChatGPT AI technology to Japan’s government is poised to revolutionize clerical work and analysis within administrative services. By employing high-quality language models and AI capabilities, the country aims to enhance efficiency, improve the quality of responses to queries, and analyze government statistics more effectively. This collaboration is anticipated to yield significant benefits for Japan’s government and various industries operating within the country.
